If I would be asked to create a timeline of the key developments and events in the 2009 racing scene, I would come up with the following:
January - racing season opens with the PSE Bull Run, which was a flop(execution-wise)
March - standard for local races raised with the historic Condura 2009: Run for the Whale [...]

I came into this race both excited and apprehensive.
I was excited because it had been three weeks since I last joined a race, the last one being the PIM. While I certainly did not miss waking up at 3:30am every Sunday morning, I did miss the race day atmosphere, and the race day people very [...]

Tough races don’t last…
I will run in the Philippine International Marathon this coming weekend.
At the risk of sounding like Manny Pacquiao’s promoter(who touts each and every upcoming fight of Manny to be his toughest ever), I’d say that the PIM is the toughest of the QCIM-SIM-PIM trio.
There is, of course, the issue of the five-hour [...]

Tomorrow is the Subic International Marathon or SIM. It is going to be my fourth marathon, and my second one this full marathon season. Anyway, as I am wont to do whenever I have too many thoughts buzzing around my head and I am too lazy to make one single coherent post, quick thoughts:
i. This [...]

Last 10
The marathon is all about remaining in contention in the last ten kilometers. I hardly did that in my first two. I cramped really badly before kilometer 30 in Botak, while my legs gave out at around kilometer 32 in the Milo elims. My 4:28 finish was primarily because of how fast I handled [...]

It’s funny that after two finishes, I still get the pre-marathon blues and jitters. The blues probably come from the lower than usual endorphin dosage: no getting around that, I have to taper. As for the jitters, it feels like I am approaching a moment of truth, an impending revelation. And I must admit, it [...]

I got to Luneta a bit too early for this one. I didn’t know that the gunstart for the half would come an entire hour after the full(I ran the full marathon last July), so I ended up spending a lot of time just hanging around. Anyway, Milo was nice enough to entertain us while [...]

A few days ago I wrote a little script that crawls through race results and computes the average finish time in a race. I then decided to test it on some of the Milo results that are available online. I chose Milo, particularly the Manila races, because we all know that it won’t be fair [...]

It’s already October, meaning the full marathon season is almost upon us. October actually has extra significance for me since I started racing on Halloween night last year - meaning, this would be the last month of my first racing year. I honestly can’t believe it - it has been a year already?
For this month [...]

I was reading articles regarding the recently concluded IAAF World Championships when I came across this.
Salazar said Goucher was drinking a diluted solution of Powerade mixed with a half packet of GU, an energy gel commonly used in competition and training by endurance athletes, on Sunday.
Kara Goucher uses energy gels dissolved in sports drink?
I actually [...]
