This is part where the Milo people are supposed to say “Joke lang”
Posted June 25th, 2010 by wilsonOh man.
Just when the entire running blogosphere is singing praises to Milo for “modernizing” the well-loved series(even letting them “get away” with a hundred percent increase in registration fee), they unleash this upon us
Three loops, Milo, seriously?
Personally it feels like Milo took 3 steps forward, and 2 steps back. I mean, forget about the timing chip, we could do without that - just don’t make us do three freakin’ loops! Seems like I spoke too soon about Milo being the de-facto national marathon. A course like that - for our premiere racing event? You’re kidding, right?
I dunno whether they got lazy, made the course easier for newbies, ran out of money, or whatever, but I hope they are aware that the change(to this specific course) just undid whatever advances they gained in technology or qualifying rules.
On a very limited upside, this is a much easier course now - we all know qualifying races are won and lost in the Bayani-Lawton Area. They also have no excuses for logistical screwups(water, etc) now - it’s just a 13 kilometer loop, for Christ’s sake.
But as I said, those are very very limited upsides. I’d rather have none of those if what we get as a trade-off is the bore(and confusion)-fest July 4 is shaping up to be.

Marami nga nagulat sa route. One of the reason is to avoid the traffic in Buendia. This will make the run safer to the runners. They took the easy solution of rerouting the runners and not rerouting the cars/buses. Haaay…

Routes should be defined upon registration because that is what some runners consider in deciding what race to join. Had I known Milo was going to be a looping course, I would have opted for Jonel Mendoza’s invite for a Pinatubo 50K sans registration fees.

the next 42k on takbo.ph’s sked is CamSur (Sep) then QCIM (Dec).

MILO considered the safety of the runners and for easier traffic management for the vehicles & riding public. however, find out if any of the MILO “decision makers” had experienced running their own MILO Marathon Race (42K)in the country and moreso, if they have experienced running 3X in a 13K-loop course? on the brighter side, we have a chance to improve our finish times due to the relatively flat & face course. good luck to all of us.

I almost fell out of my seat when I saw that 3 loops part… regardless if I am able to run that distance in my current state I would (just because of the finisher’s shirt haha)
I do hope next year they improve the route, or at least revert it to what it was (for setting PR on the ol’ course hehe).

The course is not so flat, by the way, what with 2 flyovers to consider. But what I hate the most about the course is we have to pass by and inhale the fumes of the buses and jeepneys along Baclaran a total of 6x.

i hate loops especially if its a marathon, the round and round gets to you mentally. buti guess the milo organizer knows best. im hoping for the best to all runners. Enjoy and have a good run.
I applaud Milo because it is the reason running is so popular in the philippines

Two years ago, I watched marathon runners from Max’s Restaurant along Roxas Blvd. on their way to the finish line and thought I would run a Milo marathon someday.
A few weeks back I heard that the route would still be the “classic one” and I was looking forward to it.
Learning later that the route was changed, three loops along the boulevard area, oh well, heavens help me, I don’t want to rant. Will run sans the excitement.

maybe thats the reason why they’re using a timing coz its a loop, hope the finals will be a different course

if this is a different route, then it would mean that you can’t beat the ‘course’ record set by Vertek? then how would they know if the runner is on his/her 2nd or 3rd loop should they apply the 6hrs curfew?
buti na lang 21K ako

Vard, the Milo finals used the classic route last year with the timing chip, so I doubt the loops were implemented for timing purposes only.
I don’t know if I would have pushed through with registering for Milo had I known about the course change. I might have considered extending my training time and just heading for CamSur Marathon.
